On Thursday, President Trump ordered an airstrike, which took out terrorist leader Qasem Soleiman, a high-ranking general responsible for thousands of American deaths.
Despite the massive achievement, some Democrats are lambasting President Trump after the successful strike, which will no doubt save countless lives in the region.
Rep. Ilhan Omar took to Twitter shortly after Trump’s decisive action, claiming Trump is trying to start a war to distract from impeachment. Omar wrote, “So what if Trump wants war, knows this leads to war and needs the distraction? Real question is, will those with congressional authority step in and stop him? I know I will.”
Rep. Rashida Tlaib made similar comments on Twitter, appearing to defend Iran in the conflict. Tlaib wrote, “We cannot stay silent as this lawless President recklessly moves us closer to yet another unnecessary war that puts innocent lives at risk at home & across the globe. Congress alone has the authority to declare war, & we must reclaim our responsibility & say no to war with Iran.”
It is unclear what “innocent lives” Tlaib is defending, especially since Soleimani’s elimination will be a massive step forward to bringing peace to the Middle East.
